Klokan Technologies GmbH – MapTiler problem

Later edit: so after they stole from me, now they send me marketing emails. You can see their faces here:MapTiler problems.

So I purchased some software (MapTiler) from Klokan Technologies GmbH (Hofnerstrasse 96, Unterägeri 6314, Switzerland). It all worked great until I reinstalled my computer. Then their software stopped working. I asked them why and they said that I needed to release the license before reinstalling my computer. I asked to release the lincense now so that the software would work again. They said they can’t do that but what they can do is to offer me a lincense for their new version of the same software (new version which is the same software just with a different version number). I told them that I don’t need the new version, the old one for which I already payed was just fine. They just did not want to give me back access to the software I payed for.

I post this here as a warning to future clients so that they can avoid such problems. Unfortunatelly these kind of companies really make you think twice before buying software and they hurt all the honest companies that try to make a living by selling software.

Here are a few emails from them. There are some more, but they respond so late and random, it’s hard to compile a clear timeline. Essentially they keep asking for suport money, or new lincense money and so on, for a piece of software I already payed in full.

I just reinstalled my windows computer. It seems that I needed to release the license before doing that but I have a lot of software on my PC and it’s hard to remember all these little details.

Unfortunately, we provide the support and maintenance only to clients with active maintenance. Your maintenance and updates expired on 26/11/2015.

Now the fee is 11USD (the price is gradually growing depending on the months passed after the maintenance expiration date). Next year the maintenance fee will be only 5USD as usual.
After that, I will be able to deactivate your license key.
